From fabulous…to reality

March 5, 2007

I was –> <– this close to being whisked away this weekend for some grand event (it was to Chicago, nothing glamorous or warm like these bitches). It didn’t end happening due to circumstances beyond our control, but I decided that I needed to try on the dress I would have worn to this black-tie event, you know just to see how fabulous it would have all been.

Turns out, it wouldn’t have been so fabulous at all. No really. The dress? A satin, floor-length, chocolate brown, BCBG, boobalicious number that currently is not looking as hot on me as it did for its debut event (New Years Eve last year). Thank goodness for small favors–such as those above-mentioned, “circumstances beyond our control”. Sigh.

So the horror of this realization prompted me to try on ALL of the dresses in my closet. Every.Single.One. Not completely irrational behavior, as I have a conference next week which will require the donning of these dresses for various evening events…so it can legitimately be chalked up as “planning” and “due diligence”. Thank God my lackluster running/gym routine has not taken such a toll as to bust the seams of all of the dresses in my closet. I feel like I can still make myself presentable, if not slightly pretty with what I have stashed in my closet (but don’t think I won’t be on a diet of brothy soup, green tea and vegetables for the next seven days). Also, don’t invite me to any black-tie affairs for the next few months, this girl needs to get in fightin’ shape.

    I’m stashing the invitation to The Bloggy Awards gala, then. It’s okay, I’ll find someone else to take.

    My bed is currently covered three layers deep with every piece of clothing in my closet. Really. I sympathize.

    i-66: I didn’t say don’t invite me AND tell me about it! You know how I hate to miss out. Bah!

    Law-Rah: I actually had the gumption to put them all away when I was done! I don’t know what possessed me. Actually I kept four of them out to bring to the seamstress because all of a sudden I think they can all fit me better than they do, or have been for a various number of years.

    Heather: There is just one little black dress in the mix but that one is for Tuesday…so resort dressy is all you have to worry about.

    Luckster: 31 inches seems pretty skinny for a guy, or is that normal?

    Skinny for a guy? Like guys are supposed to have fatter waists?

    To quote some science site;
    Men who had larger waists (assessed using waist circumference and waist-hip ratio) or higher overall body fat (indicated by BMI) had a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The researchers grouped the study participants into five groups according to their waist size. Compared to those in the group with the smallest waists (29-34 inches), the other groups (34.3-35.9 inches, 36-37.8 inches, 37.9-39.8 inches, 40-62 inches) were 2, 3, 5 and 12 times more likely to develop diabetes, respectively. Similarly, risk was 2, 3, 4 and 7 times greater when waist-hip ratio was measured in men; and 1, 2, 3 and 8 times greater when BMI was measured.
